PHASE 3: DISCOVERY - Implementing Lifelong Centennial MVPs
The i-team created an initial proposal to approach potential partners to assess the likelihood of future collaboration on preliminary programming concepts. This proposal outlined the City’s goals, early programming concepts and the high-level approach to tackle challenges related to the focus area of Aging in Community. Below, the graphic is an adaptation from similar materials used to approach organizations and communicate the City’s initial vision.

Partner Alignment
After connecting with an array of potential partners, the i-team solidified the preliminary programming components and drafted agreements between the City and interested organizations that recognized the value collaborating to reach our aligning goals. The i-team iterated the initial programming concepts based on feedback from partner organizations, but never deviated away from the original goals of the initiative. Below, is one of the three MVP projects the City undertook with various partners. Please contact me if you would like to learn more about the other two projects.
MVP 1: Lifelong Homes Guide & Assessment
Role:
- Secure grant funding
- Manage project
- Communications
- Deliverables
- Timelines
- Develop digital assets
Project Partners:
- City Departments
- Building Division
- Communications
- Community Development
- Institute for the Built Environment (IBE)
- Rose Community Foundation
Brief: The Lifelong Homes Guide & Assessment empowers residents to consider home features that may make their homes more livable for occupants and more welcoming to visitors. The backbone of this resource leans heavily on the concept of universal design, “designing products and the built environment to be aesthetic and usable to the greatest extent possible by everyone, regardless of their age, ability, or status in life.” Source
The i-team captured example universal design guides used throughout the country. The team then tested these guides with the City of Centennial’s Senior Commission to learn what each guide lacked and what strengths were included in each resource to inform how the City delivered its own guide and assessment. The graphic below is an example project update provided to internal stakeholders to keep all relevant personnel aligned with ongoing efforts.

Equipped with initial qualitative data captured from the Senior Commission, the i-team then analyzed quantitative data from the City’s Building Division. Building permits pulled from the City revealed the most common age group to renovate their homes is in the 45 – 59 age range. This suggested a tremendous opportunity to educate a variety of age demographics about universal design and its benefits across ages and abilities.
DRAFT

Based on the initial requirements discovered during the research phase, IBE delivered a first draft of the Lifelong Homes Guide & Assessment. I convened an internal stakeholder group that had representation from relevant City departments to discuss edits. Upon an initial round of edits, I created a digital version of the guide and assessment in Adobe InDesign. Working with InDesign has enabled the project team to deliver an interactive resource to the community and continually iterate the guide and assessment based on community feedback. Please see the link below to view the Centennial Lifelong Homes Guide and Assessment in its current form.
